Places in the City & Asking for and Giving Directions - " AI in ELT "

 



Hello  Everyone,

How  are  you  doing? We  have  finals  this  week.Mine  has  finihsed  and  now  I  am  writing   this post  for  the  last  project  of  the  term😢!

I  worked  with  the  previous  group:Serra , Sümeyye  and  Sümeyra. The  assignment  was  very  easy  this  time  and  we  created  it  quickly.We  chose  the  subject  from  the  MEB  book  which  was  prepared  for  prep  high school  students:Places  and  asking for  and  giving  directions.Our  objective  was  to   teach  the  vocabulary  of  places  and  giving  directions through  AI.We  had  to  provide  students  use  of  AI.We  selected   ChatGPT  for  AI  and  Canva  for  designing  the  activity. At  the  first  step ,  we  asked  students  to  match  the  pictures  with  the  places  in  the  city. As  a  second  step , they  were  asked  to  create  a  map  on  ChatGPT  including  the  places  at  the  first  step  and  and  again  using the  same   AI tool  they  generated  questions  about  asking  for  directions. The  last  step  was  to  do  in  the  classroom. We  wanted  students  to  exchange  their  paper  with  their  partner  and   answer  each  other's  questions.The  activity  provided  both  individual  and  pair  work.

This  is  one  of  the  most  utilizable  tasks  we  have  ever  created  so  far  for  me.It  helps  both  students  use  of  technology  and  practise  for  improving  their  English. It  is  also  easy  to  prepare.I  absolutely  use  similar  tasks  in  my  future  classroom.

 Happy  New Year  to every one! I  hope  everything  will  be  better  in 2025. Flipped  Language  Classroom   😊which  simply  means  learning  the  subject  at  home, doing  the  homework in  the  class.
