Final Post - "The time for Evaluation and Say Goodbye"

 

Hello  again!

I  think  this  is  the  last  post,😟 at  least  for  now . The  term  is  finished  and  this  final  post  is  an  assignment  as  well. But even   if  Gökçe  Hoca  hadn't  given  us  this  task ,  I  would  have  written  to  say  goodbye...

You  know , I  am  not  a  regular  student .I  am a  54-year-old  student  and  a  mother  of   three  children.

Because  of  pregnancy  I  had  to  leave   school  30  years ago .It  was deep  grief  not  to  be  able  to  complete  it. Now  I  am  here  and  I  want  to  confess  this  after  studying  one  year  here: I  am  glad   I  didn't   finish  it  then. I  am  very  serious. Since  otherwise  , I  wouldn't  have a chance  to   take  these  courses ,  especially Instructional  Technologies and  Material  Design   in  English  Language  Teaching, considering  that  there  were  even  no computers  and  mobile  phones  in  those  years.  

 Even  though  at  the  begining  I  was  worried  about  how  to  acciheve the  tasks  which  my  instructor  covered  what  we  would  do, Instructional  Technologies  and  Material  Design in English  Language  became  one the  most  productive ,beneficial  and  enjoyable  classes  for  me.Since  encouraging  me  with  her  positive  feedback  all the  time,I  would  like  to  thank  Gökce  Hoca  again.

The  course, Instructional  Technologies and  Material  Design   in  English  Language  Teaching, was  designed  very  rationally  in  terms  of  the  order  and  content of  the  assignment.The  idea  of starting  with  the  creating  a  blog  and  prensenting  each  new  project  by  adding  and  introducing  inside  the  blog,  was  great. So  my  adventure   sarted  by  creating  a  blog   at  the  beginning  of  the semester. Generating  a  blog  was  an  anxiety-inducing  task  that  seemed  impossible at  first ,however, when  I  saw  that  I  could  create  it, I  thought  that  I  could  do  anyting.And  also  the  role  of  our  instructor  was incontrovertible ,  since  before  each  assignment , she  explained   in  detailed  what  we  would  do, recommended  some  tools , gave  options  and  presented  some  examples.After  completed  and  submitted  our  tasks , she  gave  a  check list  to  revise  our  assignment.This  helped  to  improve  ourselves  about  the  tasks  given. Moreover , almost  in  each  class  she  emphasized  the  importance  of  giving  detailed  explanations  before  giving  assingment  for  our  future  students.

Our  first  task  on  the  blog,  creating  an  infographic  about  a  specific  topic and  embeding  it  the  blog.By  the  way , I  should  say  this ,  learning  how  to  embed  a  link  in  an  article  is  one  of  the  best  thing  I  have  learned. Since  infographic is  the  way  which  makes  learning  and  teaching  easier  and  more  fun, I  would absolutely   like  to  use  it  in  my  teaching  classes .

The  next  task  was  generating  a  podcast  which  highly  entertained  us. I  said " us", because  this  time  we  worked  with  a  partner .Thanks  to  this  requirement , I  had  the  opportunity  to  get  to  know dear  Serra  closely.I  think  the  most  productive  one  was  this  task.

Then  we  made  a  digital  story  with  Serra  againThat  was  the  most  challenging  one. We  did  it  with  great  pleasure ,however,  it  took  a  lot  of  time. Frankly, I  am  not  sure  whether  I  use  it  or  not  in my  classes  as  a  teacher.Since  when  it is not  planned  properly, the  purpose  may  turn  to  technology  class  rather  than  language  class.

The  previous  task  was  Online Collabrative  Writing    and  we  had  to  work  in  group  of  three.Therefore  Samet  supported  us.The  procedure  was  very  easy  but  the  content  was  very  enjoyable.Film  review. The  tool  was  specified  by  our  instructor : Google  Docs.We  all  had  an  exprience  on  Google  Docs , thus  we  worked  on  it  fluently  and  accomplished  the  task. I will  highly  recommend  this  tool  for  working  with  cooperatively  for  my  future  students.

The  last  task  was  amazing! Under  the  heading  AI  Tools  in  Language  Learning  and Teaching ,I  chatted  with  Javier  Marias,  who  is  one  of  my  favourite  authors, through  Magic  School's  Character  Chatboard. It  is   an  AI  tool  which  I  have   heard  in  this  class  but  never  used  before.  Although  it  was  a  bit  stressful,  as  it  had  many  steps  and  coincided  with  final  exams, the  content  of  the  task  highly  impressed  me.It  was  really  realistic. I  am  still  under  the  influences of  its  or  his  answers. The  next  steps  were  also  beneficial  for  learning  and  teaching.We  wrote  a  report  about  conversation  and  recieved  feedback  in  the  same application, Writing  Feedback  Tool.  The  feedback  provided  us  to  see  our  weaknesses   and  strentghs  and  little  mistakes.After  rewriting  our  report  according  to  feedback,  we  presented   all  these  steps  separately  in  our  blog  post.This  task  with  all  steps  is  the  one  I  will  certainly  use  in  my  classes .It  both  facilitates  the  teacher's  evaluation job  and  improves  the  student's  writing  skills .By  the  way,  altough  I  said "we" ,actually  on  this  task  we  worked  individually.

Well, we  completed  all this  semestre  engaging  with  these  processes.It  was  definitely  one  of  the  most  useful  courses  for  someone  who  is  almost  technofobic  like  me. I  improved  my  tecnological  skills  in  terms  of  knowledge  and  practise.

Frankly,  I  was  prejudiced  and  anxious  about how  I  would  accomplish the  course  at  the  beginning, however , now  I  think  that  I  have  achieved  all  my  tasks  efficiently  and  successfully. My  perspective  has  changed  completely  and  I  am  looking  forward  to  next  term  to  keep  working  on  similar  tasks   as  a  teacher's  point  of  view  this  time. I  will  really  miss  the  tasks...

Before  finishing  my  last  post😥I  would  first  like  to  thank  my  instructor  Mrs.Gökçe  Kurt,who  always  encouraged  me  with  her  similing  face  and  positive  feedback,and  then  dear  Serra who  supported  me  with  all  her  kindness and   cooperation, and  then  dear  Samet  and  all my  department  friends.

Even  though  this  is  the  last  post  of  this  term , I  think  maybe  Gökçe  Hoca  would  be  happy if  we  wrote   summer  holidays  posts  from  time  to  time 😉
