Daily Routines-"Flipped Language Classroom"
Hello everyone,
How are you? I am here again with a different task.Flipped Language Classroom 😊which simply means learning the subject at home, doing the homework in the class. Students learn new material on their own at home using videos or online resources. As far as I am concerned, it has both advantages and disadvantages.Let me talk about the advantages first: Since students learn the new content at home, class time is used for interactive activities and collabration for enhancing the leaning.Student can engage with the content at their own pace and revisit the video lessons whenever and whereever they need.As for its disadvantages, students may struggle with accessing the technology at home and some of them may not engage with pre-class learning, which can effect their in class activity. Therefore, before implementing it, teachers have to make sure that every students can access the technology and again they have to persuade all students to watch the lessons before coming to class.Another issue is that creating flipped classroom videos require significant time and efforts for teachers.😕
Researches indicates that students would rather learn from their own teachers who know their needs more than any others. This result makes most theachers feel the need to prepare their own videos for flipped language classroom. That's why our instructor wanted us to design a video for flipped classroom. As usual she offered two options to choose. We picked the second one, creating a vocabulary teaching video. We means, previous task's group, Serra , Hayrünisa and me.Our target learner group was 5th grade students.Using their MEB course book we decided to teach daily routines vocabulary.First we agreed of the content of the video and each of us took 3 phareses to teach.Animaker was our tool to create the video. The design was like that: 3 phrases were shown on the green board together. Then each one covered by repition, using the phrase in an example sentence and asking an engaging question to students like having face to face lesson. After waiting for a short time we gave feedback such as "great" , "wonderfu"l to make them partcipate and provide encouragement. At the end of the video we added a QR code for students to access the activities easily about the vocabulary we taught.
The process of making video was fun but it took a lot of time.Although we were three people we spent significant time to complete our first draft.By the way, I would like to say my opinion about the tool we used, namely Animaker. It was hard to use it collabratively. When we tried to work at the same time either it was too slow or the scenes we prepared were not in the correct order.Hence ,if you want to work in groups I recommend to use another tool.Anyway, after getting peer feedback and our instructor's feed back, we managed to accomplish it.
We liked our video very much. You can see it below 👇 and write your comment about it!
Don't forget that we worked very hard on it!😉
